A survey has shown that in 2024, an estimated N661 billion was spent by men in Lagos State on commercial sex workers, also known as runs girls. According to the survey shared by Kayode MO (@kayomosebi), N329 billion was paid to hire the girls, while N332 billion was spent on other associated costs.
The survey indicates that of the 3.1 million sexually active men aged 20 to 69 in 20 local government areas in Lagos, 1.86 million engage in transactional sex. The average rate charged by these girls is N36,750, with costs in Eti-Osa reaching N100,000 due to its affluent neighborhoods.
Of the N329 billion earned by the sex workers, N93 billion went to body and skin maintenance, while N62.5 billion supported their families. N46 billion was spent on businesses, with health and education expenses totaling N15 billion each. In addition to the sum paid for sex, Lagos men spent N332 billion on various associated activities, with entertainment and hospitality accounting for N150.6 billion.
The survey noted that gifts and luxury items from repeat customers, along with drugs and sex accessories, also contributed significantly to the associated costs.
