One can only imagine the outrage and chaos that followed. Fela’s music was a powerful voice against government oppression, corruption, and injustice. His songs were a call to action, inspiring Nigerians to stand up against the system. And, boy, did he pay the price for it! Beaten, arrested, and his 77-year-old mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, thrown out of a window – it’s a miracle he survived.
Fela’s legacy lives on, and his music remains a testament to his courage and conviction. His songs like “Zombie”, “Authority Stealing”, and “Shuffering and Shmiling” are still relevant today, addressing issues that plague Nigeria and the world. We can only wonder what Fela would be singing about today, with the current state of chaos in the country.
