#Baltasar #Ebang #Engonga, a senior civil servant and nephew of #EquatorialGuinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, has been embroiled in a sex tape scandal that may actually be a power play in the fight over the country’s presidential succession. The scandal involves leaked videos of Engonga engaging in sexual acts with multiple women, including wives and relatives of high-ranking officials, in his office and other locations. It later turns out that explicit videos of his wife, mother of his six children, was also recovered amongst the tapes, suggesting open marriage.
Engonga was arrested on October 25 for allegedly embezzling state funds and was being held in the notorious Black Beach prison. His phones and computers were seized, and soon after, the intimate videos started appearing online. This has led to speculation that the security forces may have been involved in leaking the recordings to discredit Engonga ahead of his trial.

The #scandal has sparked widespread interest, with search inquiries about Equatorial Guinea surging globally. However, activists argue that the country has more pressing issues, such as human rights abuses, corruption, and poverty, which are being overshadowed by the scandal.
